Book American
What is a good book about american culture – or something of the sort?
I am traveling abroad soon and was asked to bring a book about the USA – it is for someone who has never been to America.
Any suggestions?
It could even be an American classic, not necessarily ABOUT American culture, but a good example of it.

If you’re looking for a NOVEL that accurately depicts American culture, I would probably go with A Prayer For Owen Meany – it showcases a lot of the disillusionment that people who grew up during the Vietnam War had in the years following the embarrassing end of that conflict.

What would you say is the best beginer bass method book/books/series?
I am a tuba major at UMass Lowell so I am pretty advanced in my knowledge of theory, but I just got a bass, and want to get alot better at it. I want to know what some bassists out there consider good beginner bass method books/series.

How To Find Book Publishing Services
Every good writer knows that writing a book is one thing but publishing is another thing entirely. There are several publishing houses out there but how do you find them? There are two ways to find book publishing services, but before you begin your search for book publishers, you need to figure out the following:
- Do you want to publish an electronic book? (e-book)
- Do you want to publish your book the old fashioned way? (hard copy prints)
- How much do you want to spend?
Answering the above questions will help you determine what kind of publishing service you should be looking out for. The two ways to find publishing service are:
1) The Internet
Thank goodness for modern technology, with the internet you have information at your fingertips, and all you have to do is search for it online.
With the internet, you get to sit in the comfort of your home and search for whatever information you are looking for. We all hope a simple click – ‘search’ would get the job done, but knowing the vast publishing services that are available in the web space, you need to prepare and do your homework. You will find there are publishing services that have different packages to accommodate your budget, even publishing services that will help you publish and market your books effectively and some would even still allow you to retain the ownership of the rights to your book(s).
A Tip to find a good publication service from among crowed is from the testimonies of people who have published with that company. Take time to read the feedback and reviews of the publishing service to understand if this is the kind of service you are hoping to get. After much research you should find the Book publishing services that will suit your publishing needs to a T.
2) The Old Fashioned Way
This is quite simple really, all you need to do is ask questions. You can ask people who are published writers and they are sure to tell you all you need to know.
Remember to look around you, head on down to your local independent book stores, and browse through the books on the shelves. Look for the books that are selling, and note down the local publishers name and give them a call.
Remember you don’t have to commit to any publisher just yet, again the word is ‘RESEARCH’. Don’t think that great writers like Danielle Steel, Steven King, John Grisham etc ever had it easy, they also had to do their research and come to think of it, these guys didn’t have it easy because they didn’t have simple access to information like we do now.

I was reading these books, but how they are and what order for Why? So these books are worth the read all the Twilight series, but I needed something else to read what you think? Thanks for responding.
So far, Evermore (the first), and Blue Moon (published in August 2009, I think). Whenever I read it and it's amazing! My friend and I think both are much better than Twilight! And if you want to try another series: Evernight by Claudia Gray. Once again, my friend and I think it's better than Twilight, but it is as good as yet. Evernight has many turns. These two books, once you start reading Read and reading. Worth watching!

Based on four decades of hands-on experience, this book shows how, for political progressives, being right on the issues is less important than being the winner.
A campaign should concentrate their attention on two types of voters: persuadables, or swing voters, and mobilizables, supporters who need to be motivated to go to the polls. If a campaign can peel off the occasional GOP voter or two, that’s great, but do not spend a lot of time or money on it. A campaign needs to find, and address, people’s self interests: physical needs, need for structure, intellectual stimulation, control over your life, etc.
These days, it is tempting to base a campaign around new media, like blogs, Facebook and Twitter. Do not, for any reason, abandon old-fashioned Get Out the Vote methods, like phone banks, calling people several times during the campaign, and knocking on doors. People like to be asked for their vote.
All the effort in the world will be worthless if the candidate is boring or wishy-washy on the issues. People like to feel that the candidate is on their side, that they aren’t afraid to stick to their values, that they have vision and integrity, and that the candidate respects the voters. Next in importance after having a good candidate is having good organizers and a field operation that can cover the whole area (town, district, state).
It’s tempting to think that the election of President Obama, and the current unpopularity of the national Republican Party, makes this book not necessary or obsolete. Nothing could be farther from the truth. It’s easy, in relative terms, to win one election, whether on the local, state or national level. The hard part is to continue the day-to-day work to get voters to realize that Progressivism can become the dominant American political philosophy. Besides, the Republicans will not stay unpopular forever. They will be back, perhaps in 2010, perhaps in 2012, and Progressives cannot wait for them to return before they start fighting for the future of America. They should be doing everything possible to change the playing field, now.
This book is an excellent place to start. It is full of information for people planning any sort of political campaign, and is extremely highly recommended.
