Bible Testament
Themes in the Old Testament of the bible?

I have to write a 6 page essay on a theme in the Old Testament of the Bible. Any suggestions? Thanks.

I think you should write your paper on salvation for gentiles in the Old Testament. Since so many Christians will try to claim that people were only saved through atonement of animal sacrifice.

Episcopal Church

Episcopal Church
why did the Episcopal church break away from the Roman Catholic Church?

Something to do with English King Henry the VIII?

Because Henry VIII did not have any surviving sons with Katherine of Aragon, so he wanted to divorce her. Since she would not agree to a divorce he took matters into his own hands. He fell in love with Ann Boleyn who refused to become his mistress. He had himself and Katherine put on trial for the validity for their marriage, siting a quote from the book of Leviticus saying that a man shall not covet his brother’s wife’s nakedness. Katherine was married to Prince Arthur, Henry’s older brother, for six months when she was 15 years old, and then Arthur died for a bad illness that swept the castle. They had only met once before their wedding day and were very young. They did not consummate the marriage, which lead to the Pope granting a dispensation to Henry to marry Katherine (several years his senior). Henry convinced himself in his mind that he was sinning and that Katherine was lying about not consummating the marraige, and was being punished by God with no male heirs. The pope dissolved the trial stating again that the marriage was valid. Henry’s lawyers looked up the laws and found one about the supreme head of the church. From there Henry decided He should be the supreme head of the church of England so that he could grant his own divorce. He went ahead with if after Ann Boleyn gave in to him and conceived a child. They had to be married before the child was born so that no one would know that Elizabeth the First was illegitimate. So he declared himself supreme head of the church in England, divorced Katherine and sent her into exile to die in a damp castle and never to see her daughter, the Princess Mary, ever again. he removed the title of queen to Katherine and addressed her from thence forth as Princess Katherine. The people rallied on the side of Katherine as the country was still very Catholic and they loved their queen who had done great things while married to Henry.

Is making statues and movies of the life of the Christ a violation of the 2nd Commandment?

Isn’t wearing the cross and making statues and movies of the life of the Christ a violation of the 2nd Commandment? “Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image…”

If you read Exodus a little bit, you’ll see that these commandments were put together solely to keep us focused on God. He is saying we shouldn’t make graven images in the likeness of other gods and things that can be worshipped.

If you’ve ever wanted to hear Jack Nicholson sing (or try to) or marvel at the sight of Ann-Margret drunkenly cavorting in a cascade of baked beans, Tommy is the movie you’ve been waiting for. Bible Stories

One of the neighbouring countries to the land of Israel was Syria. The captain of all the king’s soldiers was Naaman. He was a brave and good man. The king was very fond of him and showed him great honour. All the people of the land admired him.

Naaman’s wife loved him and was very proud of him. One day he came to her with a very sad face. He had discovered that he was a leper. Leprosy was and still is a dreadful disease. It starts with a just a little sore spot but then spreads. It eats away the flesh leaving people disfigured. In bible times the only thing a leper could do was to leave his family and friends and live outside of the community in colonies with other lepers.

Captain Naaman knew that all the honours given to him by his king meant nothing to him if he had to give up his home and the army and become an outcast. His wife was very sad too and longed to be able to help her husband. They knew nothing of the living God and so had no one to whom they could go to in times of trouble.

Living in Naaman’s home was a little girl who had been brought back as a prisoner from one of the raids into Israel. Captain Naaman had taken her to his wife to be a servant girl for her. She knew of the living God and His power. She knew too of the prophet Elisha who was then the great prophet of her people. He had taken Elijah’s place. She knew of the wonderful miracles he had done through God’s power. When her master and mistress were both sad she learned the reason – that Naaman was a leper.

Even though she was far from home and among strangers, she was brave and did her work faithfully. One day she said to her mistress, “If only my master could go to the prophet in Samaria, I am sure that God could heal him of his leprosy.” Perhaps she went on to tell her mistress how Elisha had raised a little boy from the dead. A servant was listening. He hurried away to Naaman to tell him what the little girl had said.

They had never heard of anyone who could cure leprosy. It sounded to good to be true! Naaman got ready at once to go and find the prophet. The king of Syria gave him a letter to the king of Israel. He prepared chariots and horses. Servants went with him for he was a very important man. He took many gifts along, gold and silver and some beautiful robes. His wife and the little maid watched them drive away, hoping that he would come back soon, well and happy.

The long procession of chariots and horseman travelled many days. When they got into the land of Israel, Naaman went at one to the king and presented the letter from his king. The letter simply said, “I am sending Naaman to you so you may heal him of his leprosy.” The king was distraught and thought that the king of Syria was trying to pick a fight. The king of Israel had turned away from the living God to idols.

Word soon reached Elisha and he sent his servant to the king saying, “Send Naaman to me, and he shall know that there is a prophet in Israel.” When Naaman arrived at Elisha’s house he sent his servant out to him with a message, “Go and wash in the Jordan River seven times, and you will be clean.” Naaman became angry, “Why, I thought he would come out himself and put his hand on my sores and pray to his God. There are better rivers on my land than this muddy Jordan. I’ll not do it.”

But his servants gave wise counsel saying, “If the prophet had told you to do something hard, you would have done it. Even though this is a simple thing try it.” So Naaman took off his outer garments and walked out into the water. Then he dipped down whist the servants watched. When he came up the seventh time, the spots were gone.

The Bible says, “His flesh came again like the flesh of a little child and he was clean.” All his servants could see that he was completely healed. Now Naaman knew that the Elisha’s God was true and living.

What is the most common Bible translation in English? Is there an online/electronic version available?

Although it is claimed (and probably true) that the NIV is currently the best-selling English bible, it is probably true that the King James Version is still the most common English translation – that is, it is probably still the most *owned* version (NIV has only been around for about 30 years).

John Bunyan

Being home to some of the most beautiful of all England certainly qualifies the landscape of the Lake District for inspiration. It is therefore not surprising that the region also has become famous for attracting dreamers and writers known as the Lake poets. The term refers to a group of poets who lived in the Lake District early nineteenth century. Although they were known collectively as part of the Romantic movement in literature, the poets of the lake did not follow a school of thought or literary style known at the time they wrote. All were simply prepared, and inspired by the beauty of the lakes and hills around.

Although the work of poets Lake has been officially released and widely criticized by organizations such as the Edinburgh Review, many have become very widely respected. The most notable of these probably William Wordsworth, who was one of the few who have been born in the region, a few miles from Bassenthwaite. Although he left the region for a long trip to Germany his friend and fellow poet Samuel Taylor Coleridge at the end of 1798, Wordsworth finally returned to the lakes and his sister Dorothy and his wife Sarah, and settled in Grasmere.

Samuel Taylor Coleridge, the famous composer of Rime Of The Ancient Mariner is also considered one of the Lake poets, so that he lived only ten miles away from Wordsworth Greta Hall in Keswick. Despite the peace and serenity of the surrounding hills and moors, Coleridge met with many challenges after its creation to the Lakes. Problems marriage, opium addiction and poet unfortunate diseases with common problems, leading eventually to the composition of the poem Dejection: an ode.

Moreover to be one of the Lake poets, Robert Southey was also a native English writer of essays and letters, the biographer and historian and scholar of literature in general. He is best known for being named poet laureate of Britain in 1813, a title he held until his death 30 years later, and the life and works of historical as John Bunyan, John Wesley, William Cowper, Oliver Cromwell and Horatio Nelson. The biographies of several men mentioned above are still in print today. Although sometimes overlooked the best known of his companions in the lake, Southey made an immense contribution to Romantic literature, and is the source of the history of Golden Loop, or History of the Three Bears, which is loved by children around the world.

Presidents of the church are one of the most important documents in the church furniture. Today you will find a variety of designs for a chair in the church, though this was not really the case in the 17th century. Most churches and cathedrals before 1860 were no chairs or benches in the chapel of the apse. The main reason is that most church during this time were in a race down or dilapidated. Iglesias then had no money or budgets that could help facilitate repairs. Another reason is that the liturgy discouraged the participation of congregations and their ideology is that more people are in a standing position instead of sitting.

Among the parishes of the 17th century and 19 chairs and pews were subjected to Pew rents, which must be paid by the occupants. The rent is paid as a fee for the privilege be able to sit in a chair in the church located near the main avenue. Those who could not pay Pew had to settle for standing on the road and galleries.

It's the 1870s when changes began to crawl and social barriers began to disappear. Churches have begun to encourage greater participation of the congregations and that meant there was a greater demand for the allocation of seats and church furniture. Most of the chairs in the church or chapel were identical in size and shape. This also meant that the wood used for making church chairs and stacking chairs had to be uniform throughout. As a result, nearly 100 workers were involved in the production of the chair and church pews.

One of the most important was that the wood required to match. Most churches at that time I bought there, elm, oak and ash, including American brokers specializing in the production chair. When the timber arrives at the studio, he kept in a room so hot that the water content could be reduced by 10%. After reducing the moisture content, wood has been planned and have been defects several. Wood remains fell to the specification and ready for finishing touches. One of the most popular churches, the Church of Rome has a huge amount of space can contain at least 90,000 people, but not enough chairs for the church to accommodate all. When the Pope presides over the ceremony, then that 11,500 people can sit. The church seats 11,500 were placed strategically and directly in view of the central altar.

At first, President of the church and pews were made by the turners nomads who were also known as "Rodgers. The Rodgers has lived mostly in the village near High Wycombe. Historically, the skilled labor needed to manufacture the chair of the church was purchased by the industry for the manufacture of spoons, bowls and miscellaneous items. The same work is Applied Development chairs the church and this has led to the formation of a group of skilled workers workers that have become part-time turners.

The best quality of benches and chairs were made in England at some point.
